Temporary Pastel Hair Dye: Crazy Colour vs. La Riche Directions

Ok so, I’ve been looking online for ages for information about people who have tried different hair dyes for both temporary and permanent colour – especially in pink and lilac. After trawling the internet the main suggestion was Crazy Colour for temporary dye.

I purchased Crazy Colour in Candyfloss Pink & Lavender and thought I’d bite the bullet and give it a go. Honestly, I was not impressed. The instructions suggest applying to pre-lightened hair – perfect for mine as I have always been a bleach blonde. After applying the Candyfloss pink and leaving in for the suggested 30 – 45 minutes, I washed it off and there wasn’t even a tinge of pink – Very Disappointed 😦

I then gave the Lavender a go, after seeing the “ice cream colour” craze sweeping the celebrity world (Kelly Obsorne & Helen Mirren to name my faves), lilac hair has always been a favourite. I left the dye on again for the suggested length of time and again I was disappointed. I followed the instructions and applied with a tint brush evenly, yet when I washed the dye off it seemed to have only taken to the front and ends of my hair (regrettably the most damaged areas).

So, after staunchly declaring war against Crazy Colour for their disappointing results, I again started to search for another temporary dye (something I would strongly suggest for those not brave enough to head straight to permanent). The second most highly rated was La Riche Directions hair colour.

The colour I wanted to go was either a pale lilac or pastel pink, but the woman in the store suggested that I would get better results if I purchased a darker colour and left it on for a shorter period of time, especially because I was applying to pre-treated hair. I used the Lilac and Carnation Pink (eeek) pots and applied for half of the suggested developing time. I also applied the dye to bleach blonde extensions – as a sort of experiment to see if I would get an even colour, or if it was just my hair that gave patchy results.

When I washed the Carnation pink dye off I was IN LOVE with the colour outcome. It gave the perfect shade of pastel pink and an even colour all over, even on the extensions. My housemate applied the Lilac dye onto the ends of her dip-dyed hair and was equally in love with the colour – although she left hers on for the full developing time.

My only complaints in relation to the La Riche hair colour is that – on my hair – it took much longer to fully wash out than the suggested 8 – 12 washes. Perhaps it was because of the original bleached colour of my hair, but after around 12 washes my hair still maintained a pink hue, making it look slightly orange in some lights. This colour takes a lot of upkeep to maintain the original pink and lilac colour, but it is perfect for people who are looking to permanently dye their hair but are apprehensive about the colour. Trial run pastel colours – LA RICHE DIRECTIONS is the perfect product, CRAZY COLOUR  I certainly wasn’t crazy about it.
